Comedienne Janey Godley is Here!

For a limited time only, award winning comedienne Janey Godley is in town.  If you get a chance to check her out, she’s playing at a few Yuk Yuk’s across the country.  Here’s a bit more about her below:

Multi-award-winning Scottish comedienne, playwright, award-winning blogger, best-selling author and former Scotsman newspaper columnist Janey Godley has performed her comedy shows and one-woman play around the world, including off-Broadway in New York. She is a regular on BBC Radio 4′s Just a Minute.

In 2006, Janey was nominated and was close runner-up for the annual Scotswoman of the Year title as ‘the most inspirational woman in Scotland’; at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, she won the Spirit of The Festival Award.

A regular 5-star performer at the Edinburgh Fringe, in 2008 she won the Fringe Report Award as ‘Best Performer’ and two Nivea Funny Women Fringe Awards – as ‘Best Stand-Up’ and, overall, for ‘Best Show’ as “one of the most prolific and extraordinary stand-up comedians working in the UK”.

In 2008, she also won Edinburgh’s WAG of the Year Award as ‘Best After Dinner Speaker’ and was voted No 3 by readers in London listing magazine Time Out’s list of Top Ten Comedians.

In 2009, her new Edinburgh Fringe show Godley’s World received three 5-star reviews… and the New Zealand Comedy Guild nominated Janey as ‘Best International Guest’; they had also nominated her on each of her previous visits in 2002, 2006 and 2008.

In 2012, a regural Tweeter, her live Twitter description of a couple’s rapidly-deteriorating relationship on a train became a viral sensation and caused a media debate on personal privacy. At the Edinburgh Fringe in August, she staged a 5-star-winning one-off play #TimAndFreya based on the incident.

TIFF Comes to King West

For many years, the Toronto International Film Festival was held in the prestigious Yorkville district of Toronto.  Now, with the completion of the Bell Lightbox, TIFF has a new home in the heart of the Entertainment District at King and John.

Complete with 3 levels, 6 cinemas, a gallery, 3 restaurants, and so much more, there is no better place to hold the film festival than this state of the art facility.

Some of our guests are already enjoying themselves and strolling through Tim Burton’s mind in his exhibit, located downstairs from our suites.

This is just one of the many reasons our guests stay with us – we are in the hottest locations in downtown Toronto for entertainment, fine dining, and walking distance to the financial district. When you are finished work and going home to your Toronto Luxury Suite we suggest you try one of the many exciting and unique restaurants that can be found all along King St West.

We hope to see you soon!

The Lion King Returns to Toronto

After a long hiatus, Disney’s “The Lion King” returns to Toronto for an 8 week stop along it’s world wide tour.

From April 19th to June 12th, this world renowned musical is playing at the Princess of Wales theater, right in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district at King and John St.

Recently listed in Varsity magazine as one of the best attended Broadway shows in history, “The Lion King” has a record breaking attendance of 100%. This is the first time since 2004 that the show has been back to Toronto, so you’d better believe it’s going to sell out quickly.

Director Julie Taymor’s creative stage work, a score by Elton John and Tim Rice, as well as eye popping visual elements all combine to make this musical one of the must see attractions if you’re coming to Toronto during 2011.

To read more about this emotional and compelling musical, check out this article written by Richard Ouzounian.  Just don’t forget to reserve your tickets before they are all sold out, as they most surely will!
